Dark water and woods...

The recent Seaglass photoshoot (in which our girl ended up being a selkie of sorts) combined with talking to an FMP student about fairytale-inspired design, reminded me that we have made a few dark fairytale inspired pieces over the years. Not especially deliberately, fairytales can be easily very overdone as inspiration for alternative designers. But when clients write to us about dark water, dangerous woods, sea textures and tones, a move towards something dark and dreamy happens almost automatically.

I've pulled together a few snaps of pieces that, whether obviously or subtly, connect to this theme and could give inspiration for future pieces. Hope you enjoy them.

Siren.

Like a watery version of our Strawberry Leopard, Siren was awash with organza lichen texture, black lace, and green-blue pearls.

Python.

Cassie Rae by InaGlo Photography.  The Python corset ended up having spikes and crystals added. But beneath all that it was really about patterning. An already intricate snake-print silk was broken up further by multiple seams in a Birds Wing corset design.

Tjärn.

The surface was scuffed, painted, layered with lace, and then beaded. It is all exceptionally delicate though, you wouldn't know unless you saw it close up. Such is couture-inspired work.

Moth.

Twig photographed by Caroline Bonarde Ucci.  The Moth was made bespoke for Karolina Laskowska Lingerie, but is here modelled by her friend Twig. It was all about symmetry. Naturally, it was inspired by moths! And their symmetry is always somehow disconcerting for all it is beautiful. As though you suddenly saw the shape of a skull in the dust in a window.

And of course, Seaglass.
