Vintage Glass - Helios 44m-4 58mm lens

Broken! Appears that the aperture is broken wide open, which actually is still a better outcome (for me) than if it were broken very closed. Turning the dial does nothing, the light just floods in regardless with a very shallow depth of field.

The label should really also note that you should use talc during the embellishment or hand-sewing of anything especially pale... Keeps your hands oil-free and smooth! There is always talc in the studio (though it is often misplaced).

The route home takes me through a dark archway, past an old cemetery, down an austere underpass, and up a busy hill. It's a mix of lovely and ugly.

Yes, I am still looking up at the trees. John was bewildered the other day when I declared trees "good" or "average", but it's because I'm looking for the most beautiful twisting shapes and elegant proportions. Trying to find a couple of perfect trees, so that I can perhaps trace off their outlines for an embellishment pattern for a client's creative corset.

Bokeh. Yep, I'm reading too many photography blogs. The Helios 58mm is apparently well known for having optical vignetting, distortion which results in the bokeh "shapes" becoming more of an ellipse than a circle the further away from centre you are. On a smaller sensor like mine I understand that you lose a lot of this outer edge (it would show up more on a full frame camera), but you can still see it beginning here and it's very beautiful.

Blurry CatFace. Or CatBackside, in fact. Waste of perfectly good internet space, but 'tis my visual diary after all :-)
