Black Cherry corset - completed
Ah, happy day. The last grommets set and the laces tipped.
What can I tell you about this lovely corset? Well, including the modesty panel we have 59 steels. The modesty panel is fully boned as the client wanted the corset to be especially firm at back. I love the spoon busk and dramatically curving lower edge as I feel they help give the corset its individuality. Working out all those little details with my clients is part of what makes my work so enjoyable ![]()
The colour is showing up slightly washed out (on my monitor, at any rate), but it’s beautiful in real life. Very rich and sumptuous. It’s especially lovely in low light… you know how some colours just come alive in the shadows? Lower light picks up the rich dark undertones in this silk making it more fiery and dynamic. Gorgeous! An excellent choice from my client.
The lining fabric was our second choice, but I am very pleased with the outcome. I especially love that the pattern is small enough to look almost continuous across the seams even though it isn’t. And I also love that clients bring their own significances and stories to the designs and fabrication. Certain colours or shapes or details hold meaning differently for all of us, and ordering a custom garment allows one to explore those meanings in a really personal way. I suppose it’s akin to commissioning an artwork or having a piece of jewellery made to your own design…
Anyway, I thoroughly love it!
