18” Pink & Black sample - for sale
Hey friends!
So, I’ve had this little underbust on display in my atelier for a couple of months. It was an early Sparklewren experiment using lacing bones and testing my standard underbust pattern in a smaller size, and I am now ready to part with it!
You can see that the corset has a curving lower edge that would finish on the mid-hip on someone of average height. There are 14 steels in total which are a combination of flats, spirals and lacing bones placed to give a smooth shape. If I were to do a bespoke version of this corset, I would most likely use many more steels applied from the inside, but aesthetically I really like the effect of only a small number of black casings. I love the front diagonals combined with the ruffles and lace too.
We have brass two-part grommets at back and long black corsetry laces with brass tips to match. In many ways, this little corset was the sister piece to a zesty green version that I sold a while ago. The aim was to explore the style with different colours and placements of details, to see what different effects we could create. The green was sort of punkier and louder, whilst the pink is still sharp but a bit more delicate. I apologise if it’s tricky to see the fabrics in these photos, I am in-between photography set-ups at the moment
This corset also features two different pink dupioni silks, 100% cotton coutil strength layer, a loose lining in soft cotton, and black satin coutil exterior casings, lacing panels, and binding. My favourite thing about this little corset is the way that the cooler pale pink panels (second from centre front) off-set the peachier silk with its delicate green stripes. I don’t have any of this peachy “candystripe” dupioni left, but I like the effect so much that I’m trying to source something similar for future work. And pink and black is just such a cool colour combo… I remember someone posting something recently on
As I mentioned above, this little corset makes use of lacing bones at centre back. I’ve used lacing bones a few times, trying out different grommets, eyelets, and methods of creating the holes, but I don’t really like them to be honest. Many corsetieres do wonderful work with them, but I have had to come to the conclusion that lacing bones just aren’t for me. I feel like my work with lacing bones isn’t quite “good enough” and with that in mind this little sample has been listed at a heavily reduced price. I would rather part with it and have it be used than sitting in a drawer doing nothing! The corset is perfectly functional and is designed for occasional wear of up to a 4” waist reduction (depending upon your natural proportions). More information is available in the etsy listing.
And fear not regular-sized ladies, I have a couple of 29” cincher samples to list for sale soon, amongst other things ![]()
