Chocolate/Aqua - stitching/colour sampler
This little sampler shows a couple of stitching options for my client to choose from. So, without further ado…
Please excuse the different stitch lengths and so on, I was experimenting to decide which would look best

Threads
1) an aqua Sulky embroidery thread from Gutermann (left of the sampler). It matches the main tone of the silk perfectly and gives a nice “cool” look to the chocolate satin coutil. Considering our hardware (busk and grommets) are going to be chrome, this may work beautifully.
2) a golden wheat Sulky thread (centre of the sampler). It matches the bronze flush of the silk perfectly, and so it picks up those warmer undertones in the overall colour scheme. It’s also muted enough that it shouldn’t clash with the chrome fittings.
3) a simple brown thread to “disappear” into the satin coutil (right of the sampler). If this were chosen, I would mirror it by using a simple aqua blue thread to “disappear” into the silk also.
I am a fan of the contrast top-stitching though. It reminds me (having a horsey background) of really beautiful saddlery!
Bindings
So, the agreed upon idea was to use self-made satin coutil as the binding (to match the casings, etc.), but when I popped to the shops yesterday (on a mission to find those pretty threads to make this sampler) I discovered that they had two shades of ready-made bias which matched our colour scheme very well. And I do want my client to feel 100% happy with each little design choice, so she now has four options for the binding:
1) a narrow duchesse satin binding in a slightly lighter warmer tone (right of the sampler). This would help “warm up” the look of the entire corset, if that was desired.
2) a wider duchesse satin binding in a dark muted brown which matches the colour of the satin coutil perfectly (left of the sampler). It does, however, have a slightly different sheen to it (of course), but this might add a nice extra texture to the corset.
3) the original custom-dyed satin coutil in chocolate brown (bottom of the sampler).
4) the bronzed aqua dupioni silk (top of the sampler).
And there we have it. Just a few more details so that we can refine this corset even further to my client’s wishes ![]()
