Last night’s fun
It was a lovely fresh evening! The rain even stopped as we arrived and unpacked the car. We had a lovely spot by a window with a huge mirror and good amount of floor space.
Naughty helper! She was trying to hide behind the mannequin and kept making me laugh, so I wasn’t paying any attention to the camera (or my wonky waistcoat) when it went off! Ah well.
All-in-all, a wonderful time was had, and this event seemed much more suited to my work than the larger public events. I met some lovely girls, many of whom would gasp and say, “but that’s so tiny!” to which I would smile and explain that actually the sample they were pointing at was about their size. Ah, the magic of corsets! We re-established which designs got the most attention, confirmed which questions were asked the most often, decided that a less cluttered table was far better than one full of information, and thought about improvements for next time.
Amongst the improvements we were discussing are:
- different samples to give a clear idea of the different styles and uses of corsetry. Eg: a clearly bridal piece, a clearly lingerie/honeymoon piece, and a clearly smart outerwear piece. I might even give them little explanatory cards to set the mood and make it clear which items would be worn as lingerie, and which as top-layers.
- a better portfolio and brochures (this will come with time, got some very exciting photoshoots coming up).
- perhaps a range of standard sized samples (all with front busk and in a simple style) so that each time someone says, “that’s so tiny, I’d never fit in that!” or “but are they comfortable?”, we can offer that they try on a sample piece. Many other exhibitors allow the guests to try on jewellery, hair-pieces, tiaras, and even gowns, so it makes sense. Better get stitching!
