*New* drawing board
I apologise for the too-dark/too-bright photograph, but how many shades of awesome is this?!
My father used to have a drawing board similar which he used for architectural drawings and carpentry blueprints (I don’t know if my mum and brother still have it at home or if it finally fell apart), but it wasn’t as dynamic as this one. This piece is weighted by a (very very “almost broke my arm it was so” heavy) canister of sand at the back and has a foot-pedal “brake” which you release to allow the surface to lift and tilt. It can be fully vertical or completely horizontal, and (in combination with my angled stool) is going to save my back a lot of grief when drafting and altering patterns! After collecting and setting it up today I tidied my little atelier and did some alterations to the Chocolate/Aqua pattern.
Anyway, this delightful piece of kit came from freegle (formerly freecycle). It used to be part of some sort of local council enterprise who drafted plans for school yards and so on. They now use freelancers for that particular part of the process, and so no longer wanted this massive drawing board taking up office space.
This is why you have to join freegle and keep your eyes peeled… after a dozen “offered” posts for broken printers and computer screens (and numerous “wanted” posts for sewing machines), you get a real gem pop up. I’ve had Edwardian umbrellas, dining chairs and a couple of vintage sewing machines from freecycle. Keep it out of landfill friends.
