Paper toiles
Today has been a day of pattern drafting, combined with constant BBC news updates on the election. So I have been scratching my head a lot today.
None-the-less, I have been productive and merry! One task from today was to make up a rough draft based upon an 1882 (if I remember correctly) corset patent for a model who will be doing a shoot for me at the end of the summer. I’ve been mulling over designs for the past month and now it’s time to get to work! I’m not even sure if I’ll use this pattern, but it’s still an interesting thing to do.
So I drafted, traced, slashed and merged, and traced again, until I had something that looked like a reasonable starting point.
The resulting pattern pieces were then cut out of paper (with no seam allowance) and taped together. Drape and pin this half of a “paper corset” around a suitably shaped mannequin, and you start to get an idea of the shaping and what changes you’ll need to make.
Unfortunately, I failed on the photography front. But happily, the draft seems to be shaped quite well. A good day of drafting, and not even one papercut!
