Pink & White Corset - final design ideas
So, my client now has a very clear idea of what she wants. But just to spice things up a bit I’ve done two new design variations as I got carried away at my drawing table!
On the left:
A mid-bust, mid-hip corset from a bespoke pattern, with attached straps for support. Pink taffeta with a cotton broderie anglais overlay on the central section framed by alternating ruffles made from the broderie anglais and the taffeta. White flossing to match in a pattern based on the petal shapes on the client’s existing vintage petticoat (centre of image). The flossing will be like little daisies on long stems, lovely. This corset would have a separate lining layer in cotton sateen to cover all the interior stitching lines.
On the right:
I remembered that I had the Simplicity 7215 pattern sitting in a folder, and as my client is very much into Victoriana and Steampunk I thought it only fair to offer it as an option. The bust and hip gussets would be covered with the broderie anglais whilst the alternating ruffles would be moved down to the lower edge. The flossing would be as on the left-hand corset, except in more unusual placements across the corset. This version would not have a separate lining layer but since the corset would be worn with a chemise or other under-layers, the open stitching lines should not be uncomfortable.
Either design would include a toile and any necessary alterations.
